Ford Explorer Sport Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on Ford Explorer Sport?
    A:
The first step for Brake Shift Interlock Actuator servicing demands a reduction of back up power until the air bag systems stay inactivated for safety purposes. First disconnect the battery ground cable followed by a one-minute interval and afterward deal with any present auxiliary batteries and power supplies if present on the vehicle. The first step involves taking out screws from the lower steering column finish panel and moving the hood release aside for access. Take off the finish panel by removing its two screws and pulling it outward until all retaining clips are loose. Then you can remove the panel altogether. Proceed by disconnecting the five bolts from the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and then the four nuts to descend the steering column. To proceed with the next step remove the electrical connector and three bolts which detach the insert plate and shift lock actuator from the steering column before extracting both components. The shift lock actuator clip functions are unnecessary for maintenance and thus needs to be thrown out. Reverse all steps that were employed during removal to finish the process.
