How should a heater core be leak tested and removed on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

A leaking heater core requires a leak test in order to remove it from the vehicle. Before starting the heater core pullout you must perform several preliminary steps such as removing both the A/C evaporator housing and the instrument panel. The powertrain control module (PCM) together with its heat sink should be removed as a single unit through the initial bolt removal of the ground strap followed by heat sink detachment. You should place the plenum chamber on the vehicle floor after removing the four nuts from their dashboard panel locations. Unscrew the heater core cover until it can be removed and at this point you should extract the heater core. It is imperative during installation to utilize a fresh oval foam seal which should be fitted around heater core inlet and outlet tubes. Afterwards follow the reverse order for installation.
