Ford Explorer Sport Trac Seat Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the power-fold seat motor in the third row on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
    A:
Service of the power-fold seat motor in the third row begins by setting the operational backrest adjacent to a non-operational backrest. Take out the third row seating unit from the car. Clear the two nuts which connect the cushion pivot link assembly to the cushion frame from under the right-hand seat by using a torque of 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) when replacing the nuts. The right-hand seat separation from the floor mounting bracket needs two latch-to-floor mounting bracket nuts removal in which installation torque should reach 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). When servicing the motor apply a suitable tool to remove the latch-to-cushion frame bolt and re-tighten it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) during reassembly. Access the two latch-to-backrest frame dowel pins by first detaching the two bolts from the latch cover followed by flipping the side with the serviced motor for removal of lower J-clip and side retainer from the backrest trim while inverting the cover. The removal process includes dagging the bolts before acquiring the motor and latch combined assembly with joint torque set to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). During reinstallation work on the left-hand motor require removing the safety belt buckle assembly-to-latch nut followed by taking out the safety belt buckle assembly which should be tightened to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft). The process completion involves performing reverse steps for the left-hand or right-hand motors during their removal from the seat.
