Ford Explorer Sport Trac Trailing Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the trailing arm on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Start trailing arm service by disconnecting the toe link and parking brake cable bracket bolt prior to tightening the bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch) at reinstallation. The next step involves taking off the trailing arm bolt then throwing it away but the new bolt must reach a torque of 300 Nm (222 lb-ft) at the curb height. The next step involves taking out the three wheel knuckle bolts together with the trailing arm since these components cannot be salvaged. Installation of the wheel knuckle bolts requires tightening them to 275 Nm (203 lb-ft). Following the inverse of the suspension removal process complete the installation by securing each fastener in its proper orientation then apply recommended torque setting to protect both system functionality and performance.
