How to service and repair the power steering pump on Ford F-150?

A proper power steering pump service begins with disassembly of the power steering pump pulley. A proper suction device should be used to remove power steering fluid from the reservoir. You must detach the clamp then disconnect the power steering pump supply hose followed by removing and tightening the pressure line bracket-to-engine nut to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) for the 5.4L engine and 12 Nm (106 lb-in) for the 4.6L engine when reinstalling. Stop and remove the pressure line-to-pump fitting which comes with a Teflon(R) seal that needs disposal and should have a torque of 65 Nm (48 lb-ft) during reinstallation. The power steering pump stud bolt needs removal after disconnecting the oil pressure sending unit wire harness retainer from the power steering pump stud. Torque specifications are 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) for both installation and removal. The power steering pump requires its two bolts removed from underneath the hood while the pump itself follows before installing back the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torques. When disconnecting the power steering pump lines install a new Teflon(R) seal through correct installation using the Teflon(R) Seal Installer Set on the pressure line-to-pump fitting. Completing the service requires performing a power steering system fill operation.
