The next step for valve guide seal service and repair requires removal of either the left-hand (LH) or right-hand (RH) valve cover depending on the valve stem seal under maintenance. Start by removing the
Spark Plug and afterward rotate the
Crankshaft until the
Piston for the targeted valve stem seal reaches its highest position while both valves remain shut. All elements need proper marking that reflects their original places to safeguard against motor damage. Errors will occur when valve keepers drop off since this incident may cause the valve to fall into the cylinder requiring cylinder head removal. A Valve Spring Compressor should be used to squeeze the valve spring and extract the camshaft roller follower. The application of 965 kPa (140 psi) minimum compressed air pressure seals both valves into place. The driver should keep the valve securely supported while eliminating air pressure from the cylinder to stop the valve from entering the cylinder space. The Valve Spring Compressor enables you to compress valve springs and extract the valve spring retainer keys from the engine block before proceeding with valve spring retainer, valve spring, and valve stem seal removal. Discard the used valve stem seal. All components need inspection before installation while clean engine oil needs application to both the new valve stem seal and valve stem. Insert the new valve stem seal on the valve stem while using a Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer for installation procedures. Placing the valve spring and valve spring retainer together with valve spring retainer keys requires the Valve Spring Compressor until you release the air pressure in the cylinder. When reinstalling the valve spring you must lubricate the camshaft roller followers with engine oil before repeating the valve spring compression to add the camshaft roller follower. Finishing the process requires you to reinstall the spark plug followed by the correct valve cover which should be the left-hand one if you serviced the left-hand valve stem seal or the right-hand one if you serviced the right-hand valve stem seal.
