How to service the thermostat housing for 5.4L and 6.8L engines on Ford F-350 Super Duty?

Starting the servicing procedure for the thermostat housing requires draining the engine cooling system of 5.4L and 6.8L engines. Service on the thermostat housing requires disconnecting the air cleaner outlet pipe along with separation of the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. The two bolts can come out so you can put the thermostat housing to the side before extracting the thermostat while discarding the O-ring seal. The mating surfaces require cleaning through metal surface prep before installing a new O-ring seal. Reinstall the bolts while torquing them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and follow the removal process in reverse order to finish the installation.
