Ford Five Hundred Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Lines on Ford Five Hundred?
A: The first step to maintain the transmission fluid cooler tubes consists of disconnection from the transmission fluid cooler alongside the transaxle. Mineral spirits should be used to clean the cooler tubes before flushing them with clean automatic transmission fluid while performing a dry airflow with shop air. Only transmission fluid designated for a particular system should be utilized because switching between MERCON, MERCON V, MERCON SP and Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid or Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid may result in transmission damage. The cooling tubes require a proper fluid and torque converter cleaner for backflushing while ensuring strong cleaning flow; weak or contaminated flow requires replacement of the system filter. The cleaner needs three rubber hoses to connect with the transaxle ends on the steel transaxle cooler tube by using the cleaner tank pressure tube to initiate the steel transaxle cooler return tube and using a tank return hose with its outlet placed in the fluid tank reservoir and a rubber hose stretched between both ends of transmission fluid cooler tubes. Turn on the fluid pump while letting fluid flow through for no less than five minutes while switching it on and off to wipe away impurities. Eject the fluid pressure hose from the transaxle cooler return tube before shutting off the pump. Compressed air will eliminate any remaining fluid from coolers and tubes before you detach the rubber return hose from the remaining steel cooler tube. When the cleaner operations are complete on cooler tubes you should install a replacement transmission fluid cooler.
