The driver air bag module should be removed before discarding the steering wheel bolt for new installation at a torque of 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). The technician should first disconnect the steering wheel switches electrical connector from the Clock Spring before carefully taking out the steering wheel and threading both driver air bag module electrical connectors and harnesses through the steering wheel opening. The Clock Spring center rotor requires appropriate taping to its outer housing so it cannot rotate. The process ends with backward installation of the driver air bag module. The Clock Spring needs proper recentering after disconnection to prevent harm.
