The Wheel Seal on the Ford Focus cars plays the critical responsibility of protecting the wheel bearing and the hub from abrasive factors including dirt, debris and rocks. Its main role is to stop lubrication from spilling while at the same time keeping contaminants from penetrating the wheel bearing assembly which will cause more damage. Maintenance work includes regularly lubricating the compressor, to avoid its over heating and making the seals brittle. There are many types of Wheel Seals that have been used in Ford Focus cars depending on the model year of the car some of these include, the front and rear inner and outer Wheel Seals. Fully assembled and produced by Motorcraft and Timken among other well-known manufacturers, these seals can be purchased in kits. The major variations that exist between these Wheel Seals relates to design and use so that every Ford Focus variant it exist in could be suitably fitted. This makes it necessary to constantly inspect the Wheel Seal for rupture or crack in a bid to ensure it runs optimally.

Ford Focus Wheel Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the RH halfshaft Wheel Seal on the MTX75 on Ford Focus?
    A:
The rh halfshaft seal service requires the mtx75 to be situated in neutral gear on a hoist. The mechanic should remove both the rh halfshaft and intermediate shaft assembly piece from the vehicle. The combination of pilot bearing remover and halfshaft oil seal remover should be used to remove and discard the old halfshaft oil seal. To perform the installation fit the new halfshaft oil seal using the halfshaft oil seal installer followed by reinstallation of the rh halfshaft and intermediate shaft assembly. Before checking transaxle fluid level it is best to remove the transaxle fluid filler plug to determine how much fluid needs to be added until it reaches a fill height between 0.0-5.0 mm (0.0-0.2 in) below the filler hole lower edge. Manual transmission fluid should be added to reach the specified level and the tightening torque should be set to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
