Ford Freestar Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on Ford Freestar?
A: Begin repairing and servicing of the vacuum brake booster through Brake Master Cylinder removal. The first step is to detach the speed control and Accelerator Cables from Throttle Body then remove the wiring harness retaining bracket. Disassemble the accelerator cable bracket components before placing it to the side and following a torque specification of 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) for installation. The speed control actuator must be dismounted with two bolts that need to be tightened to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) when reinstalling the system. Separate the brake booster aspirator tube check valve from the brake booster device and take out both the self-locking clip cover along with the self-locking clip from the Brake Pedal. When reinstalling the brake pedal start by removing its brake pedal position switch then booster rod and bushing following the tightening of the four brake booster nuts to 25Nm (18ftlbs). The removal process includes taking the brake booster from the vehicle before performing the installation steps in reverse order.
