The Intake Manifold is an essential and widely praised part with a proven record of providing vehicle performance and safety most especially in the engine system. Located to introduce the air or the air/fuel mixture to each cylinder head intake port, the Intake Manifold is responsible for a car's power and performance. In Freestar models currently in manufacture by Ford, Freestar has different composite plastic manifolds that are lighter than other materials and also have a superior heat dissipation capability. This innovation improves the management of the flow of air and combustion of fuels most importantly in the multiport fuel injected engines. The Intake Manifold also incorporates variable-length intake manifolds (VLIM) which help to control the length of the intake tract which also helps add to the power. Porosity of the check and balance of the seals and gaskets included in the Intake Manifold assembly is important since it prevents the occurrence of air leaks within the engine. The third generation Windstar known as the Freestar inherits Ford's tradition of improving the powertrain reliability and safety, high safety rating and four-wheel disc brakes included. Seating up to seven and available in a range of options, this is still a great family vehicle in the Ford Freestar. In general, the consumption manifold of the Ford Freestar is somewhat unique in the automotive industry due to its various features and great impact on the efficacy of the vehicle, and is becoming one of the indispensable components for any Freestar model.

Ford Freestar Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on Ford Freestar?
    A:
A proper start to servicing and repairing the lower intake manifold requires maintaining cleanliness to prevent potential engine malfunctions so pick up all foreign objects. Start by taking away the Fuel Rail along with the coolant bypass tube followed by heater hose and upper radiator hose removal from the lower intake manifold. The next step entails disconnecting the electrical connector which manages the intake manifold runners. Record the positions and remove both eight short bolts along with six long bolts before removing the lower intake manifold. The right-hand along with left-hand lower intake manifold gaskets and both front and rear lower intake manifold seals need replacement. Surfaces where gaskets make seal need cleaning with metal surface cleaner before applying a silicone bead to front and rear seal mounting points. Install these new seals onto their designated locations. The new intake manifold gaskets must go onto position before the lower intake manifold reaches four minutes after sealant application. Position the lower intake manifold before installing six long bolts and eight short bolts after spreading silicone gasket and sealant on the mounting points. The bolt tightening process should start with applying 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) then continue with 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The procedure calls for the reconnect of electrical IMRC connector and upper radiator hose and heater hoses before reinstalling fuel rail and coolant bypass tube. The draining of engine oil followed by torqueing it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) will require you to replace and discard the engine oil filter. Before installing the new filter place engine oil onto its seal and secure it by turning it by one-half turn when it contacts the housing. Record the clean engine oil into the engine.
