Ford Freestyle Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Lines on Ford Freestyle?
A: You must begin repair and servicing of transmission fluid cooler tubes by first disconnecting them from both the transaxle and the transmission fluid cooler. Mineral spirits should be used for cleaning purposes while making sure the cooler tubes receive cleaning automatic transmission fluid followed by drying with shop air. Only the specified automatic transmission fluids including MERCON and its versions MERCON V and MERCON SP as well as Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid and Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid should be used because using different fluids can cause transmission harm. When cleaning the cooler tubes with a suitable torque converter/fluid cooler cleaner the cleaning process must use vigorous fluid flow until weak or contaminated flow requires replacement of the system filter. A cleaning operation can be facilitated through three rubber hose connections at the transaxle terminals of the steel transaxle cooler tube by mounting the cleaner tank pressure hose to the steel transaxle cooler return tube and using a tank return hose with its end inserted in the fluid tank reservoir. Download two hoses from rubber material which will serve as connectors between the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Begin the fluid circulation with the active pump for at least five minutes while switching it on then off to remove contaminants. The user should turn off the pump while removing the fluid pressure hose from the transaxle cooler return tube. Switch on compressed air to evacuate fluid from both coolers and their tubes before taking out the rubber tube from the remaining steel coolant pipe. The transmission fluid cooler installation takes place only after completing a complete flushing process of all tubes.
