  Q: How to Service the PCV Valve on Ford Freestyle?

  A: A proper Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve service begins with removing the four bolts securing the transaxle roll restrictor brace which requires wire brushing of the bolts and application of new threadlocker before re-torque to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). It is necessary to remove the bolt and the transaxle roll restrictor brace before cleaning the bolts and applying threadlocker and installing them with a torque of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) during assembly. First disconnect the PCV valve tube from the PCV valve before proceeding with electrical connector removal from the PCV valve where applicable. The installation of a fresh PCV valve becomes essential whenever the valve needs to be removed from the cam cover because damage to its locking mechanism is probable. The PCV valve removal requires turning it counterclockwise from the valve cover while replacement proceeds in the reverse order.
