Ford Freestyle Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Steering Shaft Intermediate on Ford Freestyle?
A: Service and repair of the steering column shaft intermediate should start with the vehicle in NEUTRAL mode on a hoist. Begin service and repair on the steering column shaft intermediate by placing the wheel in a centered position and taking out the key from the ignition. After steering column cover removal the intermediate shaft-to-steering column bolt needs to be secured with 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque. It is essential to keep the intermediate shaft boot bearing clamp wide open before you replace or install the clamp along with the boot bearing and boot assembly. To detach the intermediate shaft boot from its position use the suitable tool to open and remove the clamp while keeping the clamp in an open state. The installation of the intermediate shaft-to-steering gear bolt requires tightening it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) before final installation. Check that both end tabs of the intermediate shaft boot clamp stay clear of the boot after installation while the boot bearing finds its correct position in its designated groove without the outer race exceeding the area. The process ends with the reverse execution of initial steps for completing the installation.
