You must start with timing drive component removal when you need to work on the right-hand camshaft. The technicians should verify that camshafts maintain neutral position before extracting bearing caps and need to stop the camshaft from rotating during removal of variable camshaft timing (VCT) actuator. A 3/8-inch ratchet extension in the D-slot on the rear intake camshaft should be used to hold it in position so the VCT actuator bolt can be removed along with the actuator. The cylinder head camshaft bearing caps receive numbered identification for organized installation; when numbers are obscured the caps should be marked prior to disassembly. You should begin your removal operation by taking out the thrust caps (5R and 1R) since they need to be detached first to prevent damaging the components. Start by equally loosening bolts per their specified sequence before extracting the thrust caps and proceeding to the remaining camshaft bearing caps and finally extracting the camshafts from the cylinder head.
