Ford Taurus X Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor in the second row, C-pillar on Ford Taurus X?
A: The first step to service the side impact sensor inside the second row C-pillar of the Taurus X requires an inspection on the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor mounting points for crash-induced deformations. Installation of new RCM sensors and sensors should be carried out regardless of air bag deployment because failing to do so could lead to fatal injuries during accidents. The air bag warning indicator activates once both the right RCM fuse gets removed and the ignition switch turns ON. Releasing the vehicle requires performing and passing a complete check of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) for operational readiness and fault freedom. The procedure starts with depowering the SRS then proceeding to remove the quarter trim panel to disconnect the side impact sensor electrical connector. The user should remove the bolt holding down the side impact sensor. The correct operation of the restraint system depends on the proper 12 Nm (106 lb-in) tightening of the bolt for the new sensor installation together with meeting the torque requirements for RCM and impact sensor fasteners to minimize risks of injury or death during collisions. Reverse the sensor installation process only after making sure that the C-pillar and side impact sensor mating surfaces contain no foreign material or debris. Finally, repower the SRS.
