The presence of highly flammable mixtures in fuel rail systems mandates that servicing personnel should avoid both smoking and open flames when working in this area to prevent personal injuries from fire. The fuel system operates under high pressure during engine idling so technicians must discharge pressure from the system before disconnecting any fuel components to avoid harm. Start operations by disconnecting the battery ground cable and also remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Relieve the pressure from the fuel system before starting the removal of the four engine appearance cover mounting bracket nuts and their brackets which should be tightened back to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) during reinstallation. First disconnect the electrical connector and vacuum connector of the
Fuel Pressure Sensor and then proceed to disconnect the eight
Fuel Injector electrical connectors with the inclusion of the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector. Detach the fuel supply tube retaining clip while disconnecting the spring lock coupling of the tube. The fuel injection supply manifold together with its fuel injectors should come off using the four bolts while torqueing them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) throughout assembly. Discard the 16 O-ring seals from the fuel injection supply manifold since new special fuel-resistant seals need to be used instead of reusing the old ones. Apply clean engine oil on new O-ring seals before installing the fuel injection O-rings by pressing together the aligned fittings until they make a click sound and then testing by pulling on the fittings to check complete connection.
