Lincoln Differential Seal contains the gear oil indoors and road grit outdoors so that the drivetrains are calm. Lincoln builds cabins that hush wind and engine buzz with its Quiet Flight philosophy, then adds co-pilot 360 features like blind-spot notifications, lane-keeping, automatic high beams, and user-friendly switchgear that ensure every passenger is at ease and not on edge during a trip, and clear screens, soft leather, and considerate switchgear make each seat look like a comfy sitting room on wheels that will keep passengers long and happy. Lincoln began in 1917, and over the years since then, with the acquisition of the Ford family in 1922, it has built that no-hurry attitude year after year, introducing ActiveGlide on long highway stretches that can operate without a driver, software updates regularly, and pays close attention to the feedback of its owners to sharpen every model, without going overboard with hype and hoo-ha. To keep the dust out of the gear and to keep the splash and pressure spikes out too, Lincoln uses the Differential Seal made of a hard, synthetic rubber that is molded to fit around the ring and pinion exactly when the differential is either open or limited slip, so that aggressive acceleration or sluggish towing both go on without the unpleasant whining of gears or the stench of smoke escaping. Lincoln part reestablishes the smooth rotation, the Differential Seal slides square on the lip of the housing, fits axles of any size, no shim games, does not suffer heat to bake lesser seals, and the Differential Seal provides thousands of silent miles before a second look is required.

Lincoln Differential Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the differential seals on the right-hand side of an All Wheel Drive (AWD) on Lincoln MKZ?
    A:
Service of right-hand AWD differential seals starts with removing the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). You can extract the differential fluid seals by using the Input Shaft Oil Seal Remover and Slide Hammer. Position the new inner differential fluid seal first before securing it with both the Differential Seal Installer and Handle. The installation of the new outer differential fluid seal requires the same procedures as the preceding operation. Reinstall the PTU. Engage engine idling at 680-780 rpm when vehicle rests on a flat surface together with the transaxle set to PARK and brake pedal maintained for gear lever selection from each position before final returning to PARK. Clean the transmission fluid level indicator cap and remove its indicator before wiping it with a clean cloth. Check the transmission fluid level accurately by maintaining the vehicle at level ground while allowing the engine to reach operating temperature between 60°C-70°C (140°F-158°F). The fill plug nearby the indicator permits fluid additions in 0.25L (1/2 pt) increments but drivers must avoid overfilling because it will damage the transaxle. Read the fluid level at normal temperature against the top part of the fluid indicator since this mark indicates the exact fluid amount needed. When the engine operates at the cold temperature range of 15°C-25°C (59°F-77°F) the fluid level needs to be positioned at the marker located at the bottom. You should top off the transmission with cold-fluid range when Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) is low before checking the level as the transaxle reaches its normal operating temperature. The process ends by reinstalling the transmission fluid fill plug and torquing it to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft).
