Lincoln LS Accelerator Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Accelerator Cable on Lincoln LS?
A: The first step to repair the accelerator pedal includes removing its associated accelerator cable. When servicing the 3.0L model disconnect the cable from the throttle body lever and the accelerator cable bracket using a trim tool yet the 3.9L model includes the bracket as part of the manifold. Secure the lock tab while rotating the fitting counter-clockwise by 90 degrees before pulling the cable upward from the bracket. The hush panel becomes accessible after disconnecting the cable from its retaining clip followed by unfastening the nut and removing pin-type retainers and disconnecting the lamp. The next step requires removal of the accelerator cable in which you should remove each bolt and disconnect the cable without causing damage to the core wire. Reinstallation requires following the uninstallation sequence yet checking the locking tabs on the ball stud fitting for the accelerator cable; a replacement cable becomes necessary when these tabs show damage or broken condition. Accelerator cable assembly exists in two separate pieces that must be united prior to mounting the system.
