Lincoln MKS Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor located in the C-pillar on Lincoln MKS?
A: Before working on the C-pillar side impact sensor the depowering of the SRS system is necessary. The side impact sensor electrical connector needs disconnecting after removing the lower C-pillar trim panel. The procedure for removing the side impact sensor begins with unbolting it then pulling out the sensor from its housing. New sensor installation requires a bolt torque of 12 Nm and ensuring RCM and impact sensor fasteners reach specified torque values to avoid incorrect restraint system operation while tightening to 106 lb-in. Failure to do so can result in life-threatening injuries in a crash. The C-pillar mating surface alongside the side impact sensor should be completely clean along with free of debris before following the uninstallation steps during reinstallation. The vehicle release requires a complete examination and operation check of the SRS system for faults to ensure its full functionality. The RCM and impact sensor mounting locations should receive inspection for any case of deformation after a crash because new RCM and sensors must be installed regardless of air bag deployment status even if the vehicle sustained crash damage.
