The driver air bag module requires servicing with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam oriented toward the body when you carry or place it facing away from your body while never placing it downward with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam facing down for preventing accidental air bag deployment-related serious injury. The electrical connectors of air bag and Safety Canopy(R) and side air curtain modules require strict avoidance of probing since it may trigger accidental deployment and cause fatal injuries. Air bag module trim covers together with deployment doors should not receive any paint application since it can activate them incorrectly. A vehicle can only be released to customers after the Supplemental Restraint System passes operational tests for normal functioning. The first task requires deactivating the SRS system followed by two screw removal from the steering column opening trim panel. This will enable access to the upper and lower steering column shrouds using three screws before disconnecting the power tilt switch electrical connector. A suitable tool helps separate driver air bag module wire clips from attachment pins at the
Steering Wheel's rear while positioning the steering wheel to gain access to these clips. Remove the driver air bag module through releasing its two retaining tabs then disconnecting the electrical connectors. Position the steering wheel while you install the wiring clips onto it then attach the two electrical connectors to the driver air bag module before checking if the wire clips sit correctly. Check the engagement of wire clips by using a mirror while you push the driver air bag module all the way to the right position. First tighten the three screws after reconnecting the power tilt switch and then attach the steering column shrouds before verifying that the wire clips fully connect to attachment pins by pulling each corner of the driver air bag module. Reinstall the steering column opening trim panel with the two screws after repowering the SRS system and pushing every corner of the driver air bag module to confirm the horn functionality. To check horn functionality first review the position of horn contacts in the steering wheel armature and verify the steering wheel switches connector connection to the
Clock Spring assembly as well as horn wire connectors placement in the upper right portion of the steering wheel armature before testing for horn faults.
