Lincoln MKS Air Bag Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Air Bag Control Module on Lincoln MKS?
A: Begin service repair of the Restraints Control Module (RCM) by verifying its mounting areas for damage after any collision occurrence before repairing and returning to original shape. Installation of new RCM sensors with sensors is necessary for any air bag repair to stop fatalities from happening. Active movements of the RCM on its horizontal axis while it is connected and the ignition switch is ON can automatically launch the Safety Canopy(R) system. Execute a Programmable Module Installation (PMI) before new RCM installation to stop system failure. A warning indicator on the air bag will activate during ignition when the right RCM fuse is removed before the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) gets released assuming it is operational without faults. A successful start to the PMI procedure requires disabling the SRS system then removing both front seats along with the lower trim panels on both LH and RH floor consoles. Unplug the small and large RCM electrical connectors by pinching the thumb tab to pivot the connector position assurance lever all the way back. You should dismantle the RCM by removing its three bolts then extracting the assembly. Insert the RCM into place before securing its bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). The large RCM electrical connector must be aligned and gently pushed until it produces an audible click after the connector position assurance lever reaches full release position. Reinstall floor console trim panels and front seats then power the SRS by connecting the small RCM electrical connector while skipping the proving phase at this time. The SRS proofing requires a completion of PMI followed by checking the air bag warning indicator during a ON to OFF and back to ON ignition cycle that waits 10 seconds. The system should display a 6-second light-on state before it switches to an OFF state; diagnose and fix SRS issues in case the indicator does not illuminate or stays on or flashes at 5 Hertz. The technician must erase all continual DTCs from the RCM together with Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM).
