Lincoln MKX Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor at the C-pillar on Lincoln MKX?
A: Service of the side impact sensor at the C-pillar starts with folding down the rear seat backrest followed by turning off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Remove the rear scuff plate together with the locator pin and place the quarter trim panel to the side. The retaining clip of the side impact sensor will become available after pulling the quarter trim panel forward at the C-pillar. The electrical connector ought to be detached from the side impact sensor to continue. A failure to properly tighten the fasteners of the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor according to specification could result in fatal injuries or death during crashes due to incorrect restraint system operation. Take note of where the two locating tabs should be positioned then check that both C-pillar and side impact sensor surfaces are debris-free and clean. When replacing a side impact sensor you should remove the bolt first together with the sensor along with torqueing the new sensor to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). After completing removal you should repower the SRS while testing its complete functionality until no faults are detected before you release the vehicle to its owner.
