  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on Lincoln MKX?
    A: Family maintenance of the starter motor requires a battery ground cable detaching and air cleaner removal. Start by removing the transmission Shift Cable and adjustment lock from the transmission manual control lever then detach the transmission shift cable rotating slide snap before putting the cable to the side. When reinstalling the transmission manual control lever maintain a torque of 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) on the retaining nut. When installing the starter motor solenoid Battery Cable you should tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torques. When reinstalling the starter motor solenoid wire the operator should tighten it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Pull away the wiring harness retainer which fastens to the starter motor stud bolt and place the wiring harness to the side. Start by removing the starter motor stud bolt and starter bolt then detach the starter unit for reinstillation and bolt the starter to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) torque. Finish the installation by conducting the reverse steps of the removal process.
