  Repairing or servicing the selector lever cable starts with disconnecting three components: Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector, wiring harness fastener from the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly, and brake booster vacuum hose and engine breather from the same assembly. The first step involves removing the ACL assembly bracket bolt then loosening ACL outlet pipe clamp situated at the Throttle Body and extracting the ACL and ACL outlet pipe assembly. First remove the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever while releasing two tabs which will separate the selector lever cable from its bracket for placement aside. The sniper should free the three bolts which hold the selector lever cable bracket into place. A proper tool needs to be used for extracting the selector lever trim ring in MKX vehicles. The first step involves lifting the armrest and using an appropriate implement to remove the center console trim cover while you subsequently detach the two fasteners before placing the power outlet trim cover off to the side. The procedure requires removal of the selector lever cable end from the selector lever followed by separating the two tabs to extract the selector lever cable from the selector lever housing before taking off the center console side cover. The two grommet nuts must be removed and the selector lever cable needs to pass through the floor from the engine to the passenger area until removal. You should position the selector lever cable before installing the grommet and two nuts which need to be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The installation process requires reinstalling the center console side cover yet avoiding contact with the selector lever cable between manual control lever and selector lever cable bracket. The installation process requires verification of the locking tab engagement on the selector lever cable and verification of the cable end connection to the ball stud. Install the selector lever cable inside the selector lever housing while setting the lever to reverse position before fastening it to the selector lever. Place and install the selector lever cable bracket before securing its three bolts at 12 Nm (106 lb-in). Adjust the selector lever cable end by attaching it to the manual control lever and push the release tab to lock the adjuster after releasing its locking tab. Place the ACL assembly and place the bolt before tightening it to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). The outlet pipe clamp on the TB of the ACL needs to be tightened to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) before hooking up both the engine breather hose and brake booster vacuum hose to the ACL assembly. The MAF sensor electrical connector installation with the electrical harness fastener completion will result in a park or neutral start-up with reverse lamps activating when in reverse.
