Lincoln MKZ Brake Pads Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front brake pads on Lincoln MKZ?
A: The initial step to service and repair the front brake pads requires using accepted DOT 3 brake fluid because it safeguards brake components from permanent damage. You must be aware of the master cylinder reservoir fluid level and drain fluid until reaching half full in order to proceed. Place the vehicle onto a hoist rack in neutral position. Sight hole probing to retract pistons should be avoided because doing so leads to caliper component damage. Allowing the Brake Caliper to depend from the brake hose will lead to hose damage. Supported by mechanic's wire, remove the caliper guide pin bolts which are part of the two components. The procedure continues with removal of two brake pad retraction springs before extracting the brake pads alongside brake pad shims and stainless steel shims. Check them for any wear or contamination present. Detach the brake pad slides along with their four brake pad slide clips. Installation begins when you put in place the four brake pad slide clips first. Store the caliper piston and boots in a safe position while using the appropriate tool to push the pistons inside the caliper. Apply the provided grease to the pad backing plate and shims according to indications while ensuring measurement of grease for the back of the brake pad and inner piston stainless steel shim and outer stainless steel shim. Place the cut shim on the inside brake pad and direct it to face ahead with confirmation through bottom sideweir of the shim hole. Mount the brake pad shims together with stainless steel shims onto brake pads followed by attaching the two brake pad retraction springs. Position the caliper guide pin boots properly on the anchor plate so contamination does not occur by placing the boot lip beneath the anchor plate extension. Install the brake caliper while keeping the brake caliper hose untwisted before securing the two guide pin bolts to a torque setting of 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Normal brake operation must be tested after filling the brake master cylinder reservoir with clean specified brake fluid.
