How to service and repair the gearshift cables on Lincoln Zephyr?

To maintain the gearshift cables, take out the battery and tray, take off the spring clip and pull off the cables attached to the shift mechanism and transaxle bracket. Take out the console, instrument panel, RCM and heater core. Lastly, attach the new cables, with correct positioning and make adjustments as necessary.
