  A: Service and repair of gearshift cables begins by taking out the battery along with its tray. Seriously extract the spring clip from its place without breaking it before you detach the gearshift cables from the shift mechanism by removing the clip from its groove and rotating it 90 degrees toward the top. You must pry the shift cable retainer carefully to prevent damage while performing the gearshift cable transaxle bracket disconnect. Start with unfastening the clamp nut together with the gearshift cable clamp then continue by removing the floor console and instrument panel. Then proceed to disconnect both the restraint control module (RCM) and Heater Core as well as evaporator core housing. The two gearshift cable nuts should be detached first before removing the cables from beneath the floor. While detaching the shift lever cable disconnect it from the assembly with caution to preserve shift cable retainers and thread the cables through the bulkhead opening inside the vehicle.
