A safe removal of the right-hand exhaust manifold depends on first disconnecting the fire suppression system since this prevents serious injuries. Hoisting the vehicle in neutral position should be followed by disconnecting the ground cable from the battery. The first step involves turning the
Drive Belt tensioner clockwise while removing the drive belt before disconnecting both Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and A/C compressor electrical connectors. The bolt from the transmission cooler tube bracket must be removed before you can access the nut to set aside the transmission cooler tube assembly. You should detach three bolts to set aside the A/C compressor for proper positioning. The procedure starts by disconnecting the
Catalytic Converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts followed by removing the catalytic converter flange which requires discarding the nuts. The eight nuts and exhaust manifold need to be removed along with the gasket which then gets discarded from the toolbox along with the eight exhaust manifold studs. Inspection of the exhaust manifold should be followed by flatness tests before it gets installed. Attach eight new exhaust manifold studs and fasten them according to torque specifications of 12 Nm (106 lb-in). The exhaust manifold installation requires a new gasket and manifold together with eight fresh nuts which need to be torqued in the specified order to 20 Nm (177 lb-in). After positioning the catalytic converter flange you must install new catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts which require torque setting of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). Resituate the A/C compressor then fasten its three bolts while tightening them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Put back the transmission cooler tube assembly while tightening the nut to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) and the transmission cooler tube bracket bolt to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). First connect the electrical terminals of A/C compressor and CKP sensor then use the drive belt tensioner to turn clockwise while adding the drive belt. The last step involves reconnecting the battery ground cable together with following all safety procedures to prevent serious injuries when powering up the fire suppression system.
