When servicing the wiper motor linkage, the work is typically begun with the battery ground cable being disconnected and the cowl top vent panel removed so the evaporative emission canister purge valve can be positioned out of the way; nuts securing the valve are removed, and after the retaining bolts are withdrawn the mounting arm and pivot shaft can be swung aside, with the electrical connector and washer supply hose then disconnected. In some cases the windshield wiper motor itself may also be removed, and reinstallation is generally the reverse of removal. It should be noted that following battery disconnection and reconnection the vehicle may exhibit abnormal drive characteristics as adaptive systems relearn, and depending on the vehicle this relearn may require driving roughly 16 km (10 miles) or more.
