  A: Before working on the floor shifter automatic transmission shift levers, it is important to remove the power back up to avoid accidental air bag deployment, so disconnect the battery cable along with removing all auxiliary power supplies as needed. The service and repair process starts with instrument panel finish panel removal while disconnecting the electrical connector. Proceed by raising the console finish panel for removal and push the shift handle bezel down to detach the TCS harness. First, remove two retaining screws from the shift handle followed by taking out the shift handle itself. Separate the indicator bezel from the bulb by raising it before releasing the interlock cable housing clip so you can disconnect the interlock cable. First, detach the shift cable from the shifter assembly before eliminating the shift cable housing clip. Free the electrical connector push pin retainer and remove its electrical connector from its position. Pick up the vacuum harness to dissociate it from the parking brake release mechanism. The shifter mechanism can be taken out from the floor once all four retaining nuts are removed. The installation process for the new shifter requires performing the removal steps in reverse order.
