Beginning the parking brake shoe maintenance requires operators to switch off the
Air Suspension electrical power by activating the switch in the luggage compartment to avoid air spring inflation or deflation accidents. The first task requires removing the
Brake Disc from the rear position. The adjuster needs to be removed through unfastening the brake shoe return spring and adjusting spring which requires assistance from a sharp-pointed tool such as a scratch awl. Before removal disconnect the parking brake actuator by pressing the shoes towards each other while drawing out the actuator before unhooking its cable end. After disabling the brake shoe hold-down springs it is time to extract the parking brake shoe with its linings. Check for any component wear and damage before conducting replacements for worn elements. Install the rear brake shoes first by placing anti-seize lubricant on their contact points then apply this lubricant again before installing the adjusting screws. Set the brake shoe and lining diameter to 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) smaller than the drum part inside diameter using a suitable brake adjusting gauge before performing parking brake cable tension adjustment and testing its operation.
