  Q: How to service and repair the cruise control servo on Mercury Mariner?

  A: Initiate cruise control servo servicing as well as repair by removing the speed control actuator. First pull the locking tab and turn the speed control cable cap before you can disconnect the speed control cable from the speed control actuator pulley by easily pushing the retaining spring to remove the speed control cable slug. The speed control actuator needs its three screws removed while you disconnect the electrical connector. Install the speed control cable using a fresh new replacement product. After mounting the speed control actuator use three screws to fasten it and tighten these screws to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) and then reattach the electrical connector. Place the speed control cable slug into the speed control actuator pulley slot before fully seating it through careful retaining spring pressure. Proper positioning of the speed control cable cap and seal against the speed control actuator pulley will stop high idle problems that come from improper cable wrapping. Rotating the cap will ensure the locking tab properly engages after you align its tabs with the slots in the actuator housing and check the rubber seal is fully seated on the speed control cable cap.
