Mercury Milan Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor located in the B-pillar on Mercury Milan?
A: Service of the B-pillar side impact sensor begins with disabling the SRS system. The service begins by removing scuff plate trim pieces from both front and rear doors before sliding down the lower B-pillar trim to detach it from the upper B-pillar trim. Cut the electrical wire connection of the side impact sensor. The restraints control module RCM along with the impact sensor require proper torque tightening because this action improves restraint system performance which reduces crash-related injuries. Clean the mating surfaces on the B-pillar joint with side impact sensor while removing any foreign matter. Document the sensor position and its locating tab before reinstalltion. The bolt and side impact sensor need removal before installing a new sensor which must get tightened to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Repeated steps in reverse order will enable the installation of components followed by restart of SRS operation.
