  A: The first step for servicing and repairing transmission fluid cooler tubes is disconnecting them from both transmission fluid cooler and transaxle counterparts. It is essential to use mineral spirits for cleaning purposes followed by automatic transmission fluid flushing and shop air drying of the cooler tubes. Using any combination of MERCON (R), MERCON (R) V, MERCON (R) SP, Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid or Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid will result in transmission damage because only the recommended fluids can be used interchangeably.
