  Q: How to Service the Auxiliary Water Pump on Mercury Montego?

  A: The first step for service requires removal of the air cleaner then the air cleaner outlet tube. Proper tools allow you to clamp off the heater hoses at the auxiliary coolant flow pump before releasing the two clamps for hose disconnection from the pump. Check the left-hand auxiliary coolant flow pump bolt removal before tightening it to 7 Nm (62 lb-in) for its reinstallation. The right-hand auxiliary coolant flow pump bolt is held by a bracket clip but will be taken away with the pump. Loosen this bolt completely then torque it to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Remove the auxiliary coolant flow pump after detaching its electrical connector. The installation process for the new pump involves following the reversal of removal steps with optional plain water cleaning and lubrication of coolant hoses. The service concludes with filling the engine cooling system.
