  A: Service and repair operations on automatic transmission shift levers need to start with positioning the vehicle into NEUTRAL mode on a hoist. First remove the center console and follow by disconnecting the automatic transmission shift lever cable end from its attachment to the lever. Bend and lift the Shift Cable connector tab until it breaks free from the housing and then disconnect the electrical connector along with the wire harness from three separate points. Separate the right-hand and left-hand plastic retaining clips for the carpet followed by removing the two front and two rear shifter bolts to extract the shifter from the vehicle. Place the shifter into position while fastening the two front bolts to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) torque before adding the two rear bolts and tightening them to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.). Reattach the wire harness and electrical connector after which you must place back the plastic retaining clips for the carpet on both the sides. The shifter cable needs to be inserted into its housing while its tab remains secured before reattaching the automatic transmission shift lever cable to its destination.
