Shifter Assembly

The first step to fix the automatic transmission shifter involves placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position and hoisting it. Start by removing the center console then separate the automatic transmission shift lever cable end from its attachment at the automatic transmission shift lever. Push the tab stopper on the automatic transmission shift lever cable connector to release the housing so you can lift the cable from the attachment. First disconnect the electrical connector followed by the wire harness from three shifter connection points. The carpet requires removal of its plastic clips on both sides before the shifter can be separated from the car through the bolts at the front and rear areas. Reposition the shifter body and fasten its two front bolts to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) before securing the two rear bolts at the same torque value. After wiring restoration add the left-hand and right-hand plastic retaining clips back onto the carpet. After placing the automatic transmission shift lever cable inside the housing check that the connector tab locks into place then verify complete insertion through cable tension. The automatic transmission shift lever cable end requires connection to the automatic transmission shift lever before reinstallation of the center console. The last step involves checking the automatic transmission shift lever cable adjustment because this ensures PARK and NEUTRAL positions work properly and REVERSE has correct lighting. Full cable adjustment procedure must be used whenever necessary to adjust the automatic transmission shift lever cable.

Disconnect the electrical connector and the wire harness from the shifter at three locations.
