Mercury Montego Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on Mercury Montego?
A: The servicing process of the thermostat begins by properly removing the Thermostat Housing. When installing the thermostat maintain alignment of the device with inner marks on the upper thermostat housing because you will return it to its initial placement. Start by removing the upper and lower thermostat housing through removal of its three bolts. Then extract the thermostat from its housing. Perform the removal of the thermostat after discarding the O-ring seal. When installing the thermostat position its bridge exactly on the marks within the upper thermostat housing to avoid blocking the coolant inlet tube with the spring retainer. Before putting a new O-ring seal into the upper housing apply clean engine coolant as lubricant. Reinstall the lower thermostat housing by using three bolts that need tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) before placing the thermostat housing. The cooling system needs to be filled and its air needs to be bled before completing the process.
