Mercury Mountaineer Power Steering Hose Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose from the Steering Gear to the Fluid Cooler on Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The first step to service the steering gear to fluid cooler return hose requires the vehicle to be positioned on a hoist in NEUTRAL gear position. A suitable suction device should be used to evacuate power steering fluid from the reservoir. Within this process install the steering line clamp plate nut at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque rate after assembly. The replacement of fresh O-rings becomes mandatory when power steering lines get disconnected; discard previous O-rings that come off after rotating the clamp plate to remove power steering lines from the steering gear. Remove the power steering gear-to-fluid cooler return hose after releasing the clamp on it. The installation process ends by performing the removal procedure in reverse order before filling the power steering system.
