When servicing the thermostat of a SOHC 4.0L engine, the cooling system should be drained, upper radiator hose disconnected, and bolts (tighten to 10 Nm when fitting or changing) on the thermostat housing cover removed. Check and change the O-ring (when necessary), but refit the new thermostat and housing cover.
