Mercury Sable Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Proportioning Valve on a Four-Door Sedan Without ABS on Mercury Sable?
A: The servicing process of the brake load sensor proportioning valve for a four-door sedan without ABS must have at least ¾ tank of fuel and use a suitable lift with a curb height to position the wheels flat on the surface. You should not modify the upper nut on the valve operating rod before unstowing the set screw on the valve adjuster sleeve. Use 16.3 mm (0.65 inch) length of 3/8-inch OD x ¼-inch ID rubber vacuum hose which needs a lengthwise cut before you put it onto the valve operating rod. Perform this step only when the valve adjuster sleeve moves freely as it rests at the lower mounting bracket. Subsequently secure the set screw and lower the vehicle to the ground.
