Trailing Arm, Rear Driver Side

Service and repair of the trailing arm requires wheel removal for AWD vehicles at the start of the process. First disconnect the bracket bolt of the parking brake cable to relocate the cable in position and tension it to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) before final installation. FWD trailing arms need both wheel spindle removal and wheel speed sensor harness detachment from the trailing arm if present. The trailing arm requires support through an appropriate jack because of extreme coil spring stress which leads to possible severe injuries. Install the new bolt to the lower arm outboard position then tighten it at 103 Nm (76 lb-ft) when the suspension bushing fastener is at its specified tightening position. Reapply this procedure to the upper arm outboard bolt while tightening it to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) with identical operational parameters. You should lower the trailing arm carefully while taking out the jack. The technician should install a new shock absorber lower bolt and flagnut after removal while keeping the specified suspension position. Reinstallation torque should be set to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft). Secure the toe link outboard bolt at 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) torque under the same bolt tightening conditions. The AWD Wheel Speed Sensor Harness Bracket Nuts must be removed before setting the bracket to the side while tightening each one to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). To perform the procedure first remove the toe link along with the four trailing arm-to-knuckle nuts and the trailing arm toe link bracket before discarding the nuts and reinstalling them to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft). To complete the procedure discard the nuts while reinstalling these two trailing arm-to-frame bolts with cone washers at 125 Nm (92 lb-ft). When ready to tighten suspension bushing fasteners position your suspension to the bushing fastener tightening position through the use of a suitable jack that lifts the suspension until the center of hub stands 395 mm (15.55 in) above the fender lip. After replacement check the rear end alignment and modify its settings when necessary. Return the unit by repeating the removal sequence for installation.
