    Q:
How to service and repair the battery cables on Ford Five Hundred? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service operations on battery cables should begin with the vehicle set to NEUTRAL on a hoist then the battery disconnection process. Position the body ground cable aside by removing its bolt then tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) upon resting it back in place. After removing the nut position the battery junction box (BJB) cable to the side before tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). First disconnect the electrical connector of the BJB wiring harness from its battery cable harness then unlock the battery tray from its locators. When working on vehicles which use the Aisin transaxle, remove the starter terminal cover along with the starter B+ cable nut for battery cable harness installation where torque should reach 12 Nm (9 lbft). You need to disconnect the engine ground cable bolt while tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) before reinstalling it then remove the battery harness locators which are attached at the top of transaxle and engine wiring harness. Workers need to remove the starter terminal cover and engine ground cable bolt from vehicles with a continuously variable transaxle (CVT). They must position the battery cable harness to the side then tighten the starter B+cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reattaching it. Extract the battery cable harness locators both from the front and upper section of transaxle installation. The generator boot needs to be raised while freeing the pin-type retainer from the valve cover for safety access to generator electrical connectors. To remove the nut and B+ cable the technician should apply 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque and then disconnect the generator electrical connector together with the battery cable harness in-line electrical connector. For the installation step remove the battery cables while executing the procedure in reverse order.
