Mass Air Flow Sensor

The service procedure for the mass air flow (MAF) sensor begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable. Any touching of sensing elements in the MAF sensor can cause unit failure. Open the engine air cleaner and disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector which connects to the wiring harness. Lift the air cleaner clamp loose while moving the inlet piece apart from the outlet section of the cleaner. The process requires cutting the tape within the wire loom harness but not the wires themselves so the MAF sensor wires remain unharmed. You should perform this step close to the extension harness grommet found in the air cleaner. The grommet from the outlet side of the cleaner should be taken out while you lower the extension harness. To start the procedure disconnect the electrical MAF sensor connector from the outlet side of the engine air cleaner followed by removing the MAF sensor plate and mass air flow sensor from the outlet side. To disconnect the MAF plate from the mass air flow sensor one needs to remove both retaining nuts. The engine air cleaner housing requires a fully seated grommet on the extension harness to stop unmetered air from passing inside. The MAF sensor module along with its body needs calibration during replacement as an integral unit. Run the alignment notch between the inlet and outlet parts of the engine air cleaner before reinstalling the system by undoing your earlier steps.

Pull both the inner cover and MAF sensor out of the air cleaner cover and disconnect the MAF sensor jumper wire.

To facilitate the removal of the air cleaner inner cover and the MAF sensor.

Pull both the inner cover and MAF sensor out of the air cleaner cover while disconnecting the MAF sensor jumper wire.

Reverse the removal procedure, ensuring to slide the grommet back up the electrical harness and install it onto the air cleaner cover.
