Master Cylinder

The procedure to replace the brake master cylinder on a 3.5L vehicle begins with using brake fluid that meets manufacturer requirements along with preventing the use of previously drained fluid to stop damage and contamination. The product label contains essential warning information that you must read thoroughly before asking for emergency medical guidance. Keep brake fluid away from painted or plastic surfaces because immediate water cleaning will correct such spills. Meticulous brake fluid reservoir removal must be the first step of the procedure. Disassemble and block the clutch master cylinder feed hose when manual transmission systems operate on the vehicle. You must then disconnect the brake tube fittings before applying plugs to each brake tube along with the master cylinder ports. To install tighten fittings to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) specifically for vehicles with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) unless the vehicle lacks ESC when the proper torque will be 20 Nm (177 lb-in). When installing the master cylinder install first remove its two nuts then apply torque to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The brake master cylinder installation requires you to proceed with caution for vehicles that include ESC to avoid flexible brake tube twisting. Uninstall the components in the reverse order before bleeding the master cylinder while also performing clutch master cylinder bleeding where needed.

Disconnect the brake tubes and install short tubes on the primary and secondary ports, submerging their ends in the brake master cylinder reservoir filled with clean brake fluid.

Tighten the fittings to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
