Ignition Cylinder

The ignition lock cylinder repair process begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable and waiting for one minute to allow the restraint system back up power supply to exhaust. First detach the steering column opening cover through its bolt removal and then disconnect the electrical connector before removing the cover. First remove every bolt and the hood release handle assembly then remove the bolt which attaches the heater duct. The next step involves unbolting the steering column opening cover reinforcement. Place the ignition switch at RUN then push the tab on the ignition lock cylinder with a small flat-blade screwdriver to unlock the lock cylinder. Perform the installation by following the removal steps in reverse order while testing that the ignition lock cylinder works properly.

A new trunk or liftgate lock cylinder becomes necessary after discarding the broken component by using an appropriate lock repair package that contains all required building guidance to reproduce a cylinder that matches the vehicle's current key code. Initiate procedures by taking out the manual release lock cylinder trim cover followed by relocating the left-hand quarter trim panel to the side. The procedure starts with removing the luggage compartment lid latch manual release lock cylinder by detaching its manual release cable and releasing the locking tabs then removing the retaining clip. To finish the procedure follow the reverse order of the removal procedure.

It is necessary to change both door lock cylinder and ignition lock cylinder at the same time when installing a new luggage compartment lid lock cylinder because this prevents the need to deal with a key that functions only on one specific lock. The key code stamping procedure on a metal tag happens whenever a new key enters the system. The lock cylinder repair package contains instructions to build new cylinders after discarding malfunctioning units. This package includes a documentation set to align your lock cylinder with actual vehicle key codes. You must remove the components in the correct order and free the locking tabs holding the luggage compartment manual release cable. Conclude the installation by performing the reverse steps of the removal procedure.

Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

Release the locking tabs on the release cable and disconnect the luggage compartment manual release cable.

Disconnect the door lock cylinder actuating rod and remove the door lock cylinder clip.

The steering column cover and the inner instrument panel finish panel should be removed.

Turn it to the ON position.

Take off the lock cylinder nut and remove the lock cylinder.

Take off the front door trim panel.

The inoperative cylinder should be discarded, and a new lock cylinder can be built using the appropriate lock repair package.

The new key code number will be stamped on a metal tag attached to the key.

Remove the bolts to detach the steering column opening cover, then disconnect the electrical connector and remove the cover.

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position, then use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press and hold the ignition lock cylinder release button.

To ensure safety while working on or near the driver side door cylinder lock rod or door latch, as failure to do so may result in personal injury.

Discard the inoperative cylinder and build a new one using the appropriate lock repair package, which includes a detailed instruction sheet for constructing the new lock cylinder to match the vehicle's current key code.

The luggage compartment lid lock cylinder, driver door lock cylinder, and ignition lock cylinder should be replaced as a set to avoid carrying multiple keys.

Remove the bolts to detach the steering column opening cover, then disconnect the electrical connector and remove the cover again.
