Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

First start with safety procedures by staying away from fuel-related components when servicing and repairing the fuel level sensor in areas where open flames and smoking are present because such areas contain highly flammable mixtures. Start by unmounting the fuel pump from its place. Noting where the sending unit wire travels will help with wire installation during the next step. First, cut away the heat shrink tube covering the electrical connector before you disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the screw from its location as you lift the fuel gauge sending unit into removal position. Install the fuel gauge sending unit wire by passing it through the fuel pump module center and place each wire behind the metal plate while ensuring the grounding eyelet faces the front side of the unit. Install the fuel gauge sending unit by mounting it to the fuel pump module while passing the screw through the grounding eyelet then tighten it. A heat gun should be used to shrink the heat shrink tube which covers the wireless harness before connecting the electrical connector. Finally, reinstall the fuel pump.

The presence of smoking or open flames should be avoided when servicing the fuel level sensor because flammable mixture ignition is possible. The first step should involve removing the fuel pump. Make a record of the sensor wire path so you can install it correctly. The technician should first detach the electrical connector by removing the heat shrink tube which protects it. You must remove the screw then extract the fuel level sensor from its place. The fuel level sensor wire installation requires movement through the center of the fuel pump module followed by placement of both sensor wires behind the metal sensor plate while positioning the grounding eyelet at the front. Thread the fuel level sensor onto the fuel pump module while installing the screw through its grounding eyelet and tighten this screw. Place the heat shrink tube over the wire harness then join the electrical connector. Shrink the heat shrink tube to the desired length by using a heat gun without exposing it to flames since the process requires safety. Finally, reinstall the fuel pump.
