The process begins with loose wheel nuts followed by securely elevating the vehicle for servicing the brake shoes. The brake shoe automatic adjuster must be released and the wheel needs removal before you put on the brake drum. Start by removing retainers before correctly positioning the hub flange when they exist. The service begins with removing hold down springs followed by disconnecting the parking brake cable through levering of the secondary shoe and detaching the cable from its position. Detach the shoes from the anchor block before taking off the lower return spring. When removing the shoes from the wheel cylinder maintain the wheel cylinder boots from harm and utilize a rubber band to support the wheel cylinder pistons. Unscrew and remove the primary shoe with brake shoe adjuster from the strut while turning the adjuster counterclockwise. Remove the parking brake return spring from the strut support while taking caution against the strut support spring tension. Also remove the secondary shoe from its position. New shoes must be used as axle sets while applying Silicone Dielectric Compound D742-18A331-A or an equivalent substance conforming to Ford specification ESA-M1C171-A to backing plate contact points for installation. Start by putting together the parking brake return spring and then fasten the secondary shoe to the strut and brake shoe adjuster followed by the primary shoe without forgetting to turn the adjuster completely clockwise. Whenever installing the wheels fit the upper return spring after removing the rubber bands from wheel cylinder pistons and position the shoes to wheel cylinder and anchor block. Then install the lower return spring. The last step includes installation of hold down springs followed by the parking brake cable leveraging through secondary shoe outward expansion and finally the brake drum assisted by any present retainers in addition to wheel assembly and brake pedal operation to perform automatic adjustment.

Attach the secondary shoe to the strut and brake shoe adjuster, followed by the primary shoe, ensuring to position it correctly and rotate the auto-adjuster fully clockwise.

Disconnect the shoes from the anchor block, followed by removing the lower return spring.

Carefully detach the secondary shoe from the strut support, taking care as the strut support spring is under tension, and remove the parking brake return spring.

Use new shoes as axle sets, clean, and apply Silicon Dielectric Compound D742-18A331-A to the backing plate contact points.
