    Q:
How to service the muffler and tailpipe on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin muffler and tailpipe service by putting the vehicle in NEUTRAL mode while hoisting it. Rubbber degradation will occur when you use oil- or grease-based lubricants on isolators. Service technicians must loose the clamp and separate the isolator from the hanger followed by removal of the extension pipe for Expedition models or the resonator for Navigator models before tightening the clamp to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) forces. You should proceed with removing the 4 nuts and 2 stabilizer bar brackets after which you can let the bar hang from the links and tighten to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) during the repair. Once you separate the isolators from the muffler use new fasteners for installation by tightening them to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). When you direct the muffler outlet over the rear axle avoid touching the axle boots to prevent harm. The muffler and tailpipe assembly should be removed so you can clean the inlet pipes and converters and always use new fasteners during reinstallation. Inspect exhaust hanger isolators for damage symptoms. Replace them when necessary. Reverse the previous uninstalling steps to execute the installation.

    Q:
How to service and repair the muffler and tailpipe on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
The procedure to repair a muffler and tailpipe begins with having the vehicle in NEUTRAL position and placed on a hoist. Start by opening the clamp while pulling apart the isolator from its hanger before taking off the extension pipe (Expedition series) or using the resonator (Navigator line up). The bar becomes suspended from the links after the removal of four nuts and two stabilizer bar brackets. Apply a suitable jack stand to support the muffler before removing the isolators from the muffler and unfastening both bolts and flag nuts which then become waste material. Avoid contacting the axle boots as you direct the muffler outlet across the rear axle to protect from damage. Clean the mating surfaces of clockwise and counter-clockwise inlet pipe and catalytic converter before removing the muffler along with tailpipe assembly. New fasteners should be installed while inspecting exhaust hanger isolators for signs of damage or wear because replacement may be needed. The installation ends by following steps in the reverse order of removal.
